Los Altos
Los Altos has a small town feel characterized by tree-lined streets within a six-block triangle. You will find more than 150 shops offering just about everything. Stroll the streets for a quick bite to eat at one of the many unique cafes, stop at the hardware store or shop one of 2 grocery stores all located in a village atmosphere. All this and more with free parking. In addition to Los Altos’ downtown businesses, there are six additional conveniently located small retail districts serving nearby neighborhoods. Los Altos has successfully preserved its rural roots, maintained spacious lot sizes for single-family homes and established policies for commercial development.
Most of the city’s growth occurred between 1950 and 1980. Originally an agricultural town with many summer cottages and apricot orchards, Los Altos is now an affluent bedroom community. Los Altos has several distinctive features with commercial zones strictly limited to the downtown area and small shopping and office parks lining Foothill Expressway and El Camino Real.
The City of Los Altos, incorporated in 1952 is seven square miles including eleven parks and is home to approximately 29,000 people. Los Altos city limit is approximately 40 miles south of San Francisco and is in the heart of world-famous Silicon Valley. Its bordering towns are Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Cupertino.
